Man arrested over alleged killing of brother’s pregnant wife in Ilorin

Ilorin, Kwara State – Tragedy struck Temidire Zone 4, Egbejila, Ilorin, after a 39-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Esther Enemo, was found brutally murdered and dismembered.

The victim, whose husband is a trader in agricultural chemicals based in a border town in northern Kwara, was discovered in the bush behind her residence with parts of her body missing. Additional remains were later recovered inside a sack dumped beneath a nearby bridge, though her head was still missing as of press time.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the prime suspect, 29-year-old Sylvester Enemo, the younger brother of the victim’s husband, was spotted leaving the house at dawn on Thursday carrying a black nylon bag dripping with blood. A trail from the bag reportedly led to the site where the mutilated body was uncovered.

Residents said Mrs. Enemo had been alone at home the night before and was last seen buying bottles of beer and plates of pepper soup before returning indoors. Some suggested her actions indicated she was expecting a visitor.

Neighbours disclosed that the couple had only recently moved into the area. The gruesome killing sparked fears of ritual motives and stoked ethnic suspicions within the multi-tribal community.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) apprehended the suspect following reports of foul play.

“The dismembered body of Mrs. Esther Enemo was discovered in the bush behind her residence. Further search led to the recovery of other parts concealed in a sack and dumped beneath a nearby bridge. A suspect, one Mr. Sylvester Enemo, younger brother to the victim’s husband, has been arrested in connection with the crime,” she said.

Ejire-Adeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full-scale investigation, assuring that justice would be served.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy.

The police urged residents to remain calm and refrain from speculative comments capable of inciting unrest, noting that security had been reinforced across the state.
